Supplier returns

What goes back to the supplier must leave the software.

Sealed boxes on a pallet by the stockroom door, ready to go back

Why it matters

End of season, items you no longer want to sell, a range the supplier takes back to renew it: a return is goods leaving the store. It’s the reverse of a delivery, and it needs the same care. A parcel sent without being logged leaves the item in your book stock: at the stocktake, it’s missing.

What often happens

The parcel gone, the logging forgotten. You wait for the credit note to log the return, and the credit note arrives two months later.

The parcel ready, counted anyway. Return boxes wait for the carrier in the stockroom, and end up in the count.

The credit note that doesn’t match. The supplier takes back less than was sent, and nobody notices.

What to do

Log on departure. The return is logged the day the parcel leaves, not when the credit note arrives.

Set waiting parcels apart. Outside the counting zones, marked “supplier return”.

Match the credit note. Compare what the supplier credits with what was sent.
